Muscle Activation Differs Between Individuals During Initial Powered Ankle Exoskeleton Adaptation

چکیده
Although previous studies have shown that powered exoskeletons reduce muscle activation while walking across participants, less is known about how they impact an individual’s activation. This study examined activity during with a ankle exoskeleton. The designed human-exoskeleton coordination was defined as decrease in medial gastrocnemius (MGAS) the exoskeleton and increase unpowered. 60% of participants were observed to coordinate designed, 67% showing RMS MGAS adaptation. showed no change de-adaptation, 47% not returning baseline metrics by late de-adaptation. Muscle differs between individuals response power state over time within state. It important consider these different behaviors when integrating into occupational settings adaptation may be supported training experience.

Muscle recruitment and coordination with an ankle exoskeleton.
Exoskeletons have the potential to assist and augment human performance. Understanding how users adapt their movement and neuromuscular control in response to external assistance is important to inform the design of these devices. The aim of this research was to evaluate changes in muscle recruitment and coordination for ten unimpaired individuals walking with an ankle exoskeleton. We evaluated...
متن کاملLocomotor adaptation to a soleus EMG-controlled antagonistic exoskeleton.
Locomotor adaptation in humans is not well understood. To provide insight into the neural reorganization that occurs following a significant disruption to one's learned neuromuscular map relating a given motor command to its resulting muscular action, we tied the mechanical action of a robotic exoskeleton to the electromyography (EMG) profile of the soleus muscle during walking. The powered exo...
متن کاملInitial Experimental Study on Dynamic Interaction Between an Amputee and a Powered Ankle-Foot Prostheses
Today, commercially available ankle-foot prostheses are completely passive, and consequently, their mechanical properties remain fixed with walking speed and terrain. Conversely, normal human ankle stiffness varies within each gait cycle and also with walking speed [1][2][3]. Furthermore, some studies have indicated that one of the main functions of the human ankle is to provide adequate energy...

Integrating humans and robotic machines into one system offers multiple opportunities for creating assistive technologies that can be used in biomedical, industrial, and aerospace applications. The scope of the present research is to study the integration of a human arm with a powered exoskeleton (orthotic device) and its experimental implementation in an elbow joint, naturally controlled by th...
متن کاملLearning to walk with a robotic ankle exoskeleton.
We used a lower limb robotic exoskeleton controlled by the wearer's muscle activity to study human locomotor adaptation to disrupted muscular coordination. Ten healthy subjects walked while wearing a pneumatically powered ankle exoskeleton on one limb that effectively increased plantar flexor strength of the soleus muscle. Soleus electromyography amplitude controlled plantar flexion assistance ...
